Seawolves Back To .500 With 6th Straight Win

J.T. Tipton led SSU to their sixth straight win on Saturday night
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  J.T. Tipton had 24 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as the Sonoma State men's basketball team clawed back to .500 overall with a 74-69 win over Cal State L.A. on Saturday night in Los Angeles.  It was the sixth straight victory for the Seawolves as they improve to 7-7, 6-4 CCAA.  The Golden Eagles, two nights removed from an upset win over Humboldt State, fall to 6-8, 3-6 CCAA.

The win leaves Sonoma State just one and a half games behind CCAA-leading Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.

Cal State L.A. got on the board first with a layup just 34 seconds in to the game, but SSU's Jeff Fuller responded with a layup of his own just seconds later and the Seawolves wouldn't trail again.  Sonoma State's lead grew to a game-high 16 when Kevin Cornwell beat the first half buzzer with a jumper, making it 37-21 at the break.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead to three with 29 seconds to go, but J.T. Tipton sealed the Seawolf victory with four consecutive free throws in the final ticks.

Tipton's 24 points came on 7-of-15 shooting from the field.  He was also 9-of-11 from the free throw line in a 40-minute effort.  Kevin Cornwell was also in double figures with 11 points.  As a team, SSU shot 55.3% for the game and a stellar 60.9% in the first half.

Jontae Vinson, who scored 46 in Thursday's win over No. 19 Humboldt State, scored 16 points.  Vincent Camper shared team-high honors with 16 as well.

The Seawolves hope to extend their winning streak next weekend when they host Chico State (Thursday) and Cal State Stanislaus (Saturday).
