ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Danae Wellander poured in a career-high 27 points as Sonoma Stae cruised to a 68-57 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night in Rohnert Park. The win lifts the Seawolves to 7-9, 6-6 CCAA. The Warriors drop to 4-12, 1-11 CCAA.
The first 12 minutes of the first half went back-and-forth as the teams were tied five times before SSU went on a 7-0 run to take a 24-17 lead with seven minutes left. SSU extended their run to 20-7 to enter the break up by 13 at 37-24.
SSU's lead would stay between eight and a game-high 15 in the second half with the Warriors never really challenging.
Wellander's 27 points surpassed her previous career-high of 23 points set in the opener against Regis. The Sonoma native shot 10-of-16 from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point territory. She also had a team-high five assists. Lauren Redfield was the only other Seawolf in double figures, finishing the night with 12 points in addition to seven rebounds.
Gwendolyn Paige led a trio of Warriors in double figures with 16 points. As a team, Stanislaus shot 39% and they forced 22 SSU turnovers, resulting in 13 Warrior steals. Lysandra Williams had five of those steals to go along with her 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sonoma State continues their homestand next weekend when they host Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona.
