ROHNERT PARK, Calif- San Francisco State's Zoila Marquez had a goal and an assist to lead her Gators to a 3-0 win over Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The loss leaves the Seawolves at 8-7-2, 4-7-2 CCAA. The Gators improve to 7-8-2, 5-5-2 CCAA.
San Francisco State took advantage of an early opportunity in the tenth minute when Myriah Johnson scored out of a scramble in front of the net. SFSU would score again 13 minutes later when Marquez intercepted a pass and quickly sent a laser to the lower right corner of the goal.
The score would remain 2-0 through the end of the first half, but SFSU was quick to tack on another goal just six minutes into the second half. Marquez sent a perfect cross in front of the net for a waiting Sarah Ruebel, who's header found the back of the net.
The Gators held a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Prior to the game, Sonoma State's three seniors (
Tiffany Chappell,
Jessica Eshia, and
Laura Perry) were honored as a part of Senior Day.
The Seawolves will host non-conference Notre Dame de Namur in their final home game of the year, next Wednesday.
