LA JOLLA, Calif- UC San Diego came back to beat Sonoma State in five games on Friday night, ending the Seawolves' six-game winning streak. The 20th-ranked Tritons picked up the win by scores of 23-30, 30-22, 22-30, 30-28, 15-11 to improve to 18-7, 12-5 CCAA. The Seawolves drop to 13-13, 9-8 CCAA with one game to go.
The Seawolves were just two points from winning the match, tied at 28 in game four before UCSD got two kills to steal the win. The game was tied at eight in the fifth game as well, but the Tritons pulled away down the stretch.
Kristy Sather turned in 21 kills to give her at least 20 kills for the fifth game in a row.
Marianne Fox (12) and
Kaylee Aizenstadt (11) were also in double digits.
Lindsay Brown had 52 assists and
Taylor Manton posted 32 digs.
Rebecca Bailey had 29 kills to lead the Tritons. Kim Adams went for 50 assists and Natalie Facchini had a game-high 39 digs.
The Seawolves will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Cal State L.A.. SSU entered the weekend ranked 10th in the region. With eight teams advancing to the NCAA Regional Ttournament, the loss to UCSD certainly deals a blow to their post-season aspirations.
