SSU Women Smother Coyotes, 49-40

Danae Wellander finished with 14 points and eight rebounds

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State got 14 points and eight rebounds from Danae Wellander on Thursday night to defeat Cal State San Bernardino 49-40 in Rohnert Park. The win completes a season sweep over the Coyotes for the Seawolves as they improve to 8-9, 7-6 CCAA.  CSUSB drops to 11-6, 7-5 CCAA.

The 40 points scored by Cal State San Bernardino was the fewest allowed by SSU since February 20, 2004 when they yielded just 38 points, also to the Coyotes.

SSU used a suffocating defense to limit the Coyotes to just 14 first half points 23.1% shooting.  Vanessa Wilt would be the only offensive highlight for CSUSB, finishing with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting.  Outside of Wilt, the Coyotes shot just 4-for-36 as a team.

Wellander finished the night with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting.  She also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and blocked three shots.  Chelsey Armacost was also in double figures, posting 12 points.

Sonoma State will host Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night at 5:30 pm.
