CARSON, Calif- Cal State Dominguez Hills got out to an early lead and held on to defeat Sonoma State 79-57 on Saturday night at the Torodome in Carson. Freshman
Ben Washington scored a career-high 16 for the Seawolves as they drop to 9-11, 8-8 CCAA. The Toros are now 9-12, 6-10 CCAA.
The Toros got out to a solid start, turning an 8-2 edge into a commanding 31-18 advantage 14 minutes into the game. SSU would trim the deficit to single digits on three occasions before the end of the half, but a late Toro surge pushed the lead to 43-31 at the break.
The second half was more of the same as the Toros closed out SSU for a 22-point win. Jonathan Toliver had 19 points for CSUDH on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds, tied for game-high honors with Jamaal Barnes of CSUDH and
Barry Weiss of SSU.
Ben Washington came off the bench to lead the Seawolves with 16 points.
Jeff Fuller (11) and
J.T. Tipton (10) were also double digit scorers for Sonoma State.
The Seawolves continue their four-game roadtrip next weekend when they face San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
