Softball Shut Down By No. 4 Humboldt State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State had trouble generating offense against No. 4 Humboldt State in Saturday's CCAA softball doubleheader between the teams as the 'Jacks rolled to a sweep with 4-0 and 3-0 victories.  The loss drops to Seawolves to 4-8, 0-2 CCAA while HSU improves to 7-1, 2-0 CCAA.

SSU's Simone Brandalise went toe-to-toe with Humboldt starter Lizzy Prescott in the opener for two innings before the 'Jacks erupted for three runs.  Nancy Harbeson dealt the biggest blow to SSU with a two-run single to left field, giving Prescott all the run support she'd need.  The HSU starter allowed just three hits and struck out four to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Game two saw HSU score two runs with two outs in the first inning.  Back-to-back RBI singles by Harbeson and Marissa Slattery accounted for the runs.  Humboldt would tack on another run in the fifth when Francesca West doubled home Carolyn Cameron.  Tracy Motzny allowed just four hits and one walk in seven innings to earn the win.  Lindsey Emmel allowed just one earned run, but was tagged with the loss.

The Seawolves play at Cal State East Bay on Wednesday afternoon, a makeup of last week's rained out affair.
