Seawolves Pound Grand Canyon For First Win

Shyrle Hawes went 2-for-3 with three RBIs against GCU

TURLOCK, Calif. - The Sonoma State softball team exploded for nine runs and 14 hits against Grand Canyon to win its first game of the season Saturday afternoon 9-2.

Freshman third baseman Ashley Eisemann led the rout going a perfect 4-for-4 on the day. Junior Shyrle Hawes got back on track with two hits and three RBIs. Freshmen Devin Steelman and Rachelle Boone and Calire Hiney each tallied two hits.

Simone Brandalise started the game for the Seawolves on the rubber but got into trouble in the third inning. Head coach Jaime Wallin then brought in Brittany Williams  who went 4.2 innings allowing no runs and only one hit to pick up the win.

The Seawolves move to 1-2 on the season with the win. They won't be able to enjoy the win for long as the face nationally ranked No. 4 Humboldt State this afternon at 1:00 pm in Turlock at the Best of the West Tournament.
