LA JOLLA, Calif-  Despite a valiant effort, the Sonoma State women's basketball team came up short in their bid to knock off No. 18 UC San Diego, falling 66-59 on Friday night in La Jolla.  The win gives the Tritons a season sweep of the Seawolves as they improve to 17-3, 13-2 CCAA.  The Seawolves fall to 9-10, 8-7 CCAA.
Danae Wellander shot 8-for-23 from the floor on her way to a team-high 16 points for SSU.
Lauren Redfield and
Chelsey Armacost added 15 and 14 points respectively.
The Tritons were led by sophomore Michelle Osier, who had a double-double by halftime on her way to 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Leora Juster, the reigning CCAA Player of the Year, finished with just eleven points, less than half her season average.  She did, however, dish out eight assists to help guide the Triton offense.
UCSD shot 54% from the floor and 5-for-12 from three-point range.  The Seawolves, on the other hand, shot just 39% from the field, but they did hit nine of their 25 free throw attempts.  It was the Seawolves' long range shooting that kept them in the game.  Redfield hit a career-high five three-pointers in ten attempts.
The Seawolves will look to salvage a split on the trip tomorrow night when they play at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
