Wellander Goes For 31 In Win Over Stanislaus

Danae Wellander shot 13-for-16 from the field in Thursday night's win
TURLOCK, Calif-  Danae Wellander scored a career-high 31 points to lead Sonoma State to an 89-72 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday evening in Turlock.  The win helps solidify SSU's standing in the NCAA West Region on the final weekend of the regular season.  The Seawolves, who entered the weekend ranked No. 6 in the region, improve to 14-11, 13-8 CCAA.

The 89 points was by far the most scored by Sonoma State in a game this year.  Their previous high was 74, scored in a 13-point win over Cal State Monterey Bay last month.

Wellander's 31 points came on a near perfect night from the field.  The junior from Sonoma shot 13-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.  She also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Lauren Redfield pitched in with 17 points and Nichola Hester had eight rebounds.

Sonoma State shot an outstanding 53.6% for the game, compared to 43.5% for Cal State Stanislaus.

Cal State Stanislaus led the game 4-3 before SSU quickly took the lead and never looked back.  The lead stayed between 10 and 15 for nearly the entire game.  SSU led 44-33 at the half.

The Seawolves close out the regular season on Saturday night against No. 13 Chico State.  The Wildcats, who edged SSU 50-49 in Rohnert Park earlier this year, are ranked No. 2 in the west region.
