Seawolves Break Two School Records in 20-5 Win

The Seawolves set two school records against Wheaton.
POMONA, Calif. - The Sonoma State women's water polo team set school records for goals scored (20) and margin of victory (15) Friday morning against Wheaton College in a 20-4 win in the opener of the Lancer Invitational hosted by Cal Baptist and Pomona-Pitzer.

Thre previous records for most goals and largest margin of victory were set in a 17-6 win over Cal State Monterey Bay last season (3/31/06).

The Seawolves (11-7 overall) used a very balanced attack in setting the records. Fifteen different Seawolves scored a goal in the rout. Samantha Burchard, Jessica Scott, Tasha Thiele, Samantha Seminoff and Courtney Rider each netted two goals.

A blow out wasn't the evident after the first period as SSU only lead 4-1. But the Seawolves extended their lead to 10-3 at the half. Sonoma State then stretched it lead to 16-4 in the third and tacked on four more for good measure in the final frame to win 20-5.

Sonoma State is back in action this afternoon to face tournament co-host Pomona-Pitzer.
