POMONA, Calif- The Sonoma State men's tennis team picked up their first win of the year with a 5-4 victory over previously undefeated Western New Mexico on Friday afternoon in Pomona. The Seawolves fell behind in doubles, but came back with four wins in singles to hand the Mustangs (5-1) their first loss of the season. SSU improves to 1-4 on the season.
Connor Olson and
Brandon Buskirk stayed perfect in doubles competition with their fifth straight win, but the Mustangs were able to take points at No. 1 and No. 2 to go up 2-1 entering singles play. SSU got wins at No. 1 (
Andy Muesse), No. 3 (Jeff Stollberg), and No. 5 (
Logan Bailey), before they were able to clinch the victory with a come from behind win at No. 2 by Zel Sperry.
The Seawolves will try for their second consecutive win tomorrow morning when they face Cal Poly Pomona.
