ARCATA, Calif- The Sonoma State softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Humboldt State on Friday afternoon in Arcata. The 'Jacks won game one 3-1 before completing the sweep with a 6-0 win in the nightcap. The losses drop SSU's record to 13-17, 5-11 CCAA. The Lumberjacks, ranked ninth in the nation, improve to 20-3, 11-1 CCAA.
Lindsay Emmel pitched well, but not quite well enough in the opener against a potent Lumberjack lineup. HSU scored once in the first and two times in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Sonoma State's Alex Winters hit her first home run of the year in the fourth to make it 3-1, but that would be one of just two Seawolf hits in the game. Lizzy Prescott got the win, striking out nine Seawolves, to improve to 11-1 on the year.
In game two the Seawolves were able to double their hit production, but they couldn't push a run across against HSU starter Tracy Motzny. Simone Brandalise went the distance, yielding ten hits and three earned runs. The Seawolves were not helped by the three errors they committed in the game. SSU got one single a piece from four different players.
The Seawolves will stay up in Arcata this weekend to play four games, two each against Humboldt and Western Oregon.
