ARCATA, Calif- Sonoma State lost a tough one to Western Oregon, 7-6, in non-conference softball action at the Al Cooper Tournament in Arcata on Saturday. WOU got the winning run in the sixth inning to improve to 10-10. The Seawolves drop to 13-19.
SSU led 3-2, before a four-run Western Oregon fourth put them in a 6-3 hole. The Seawolves wasted no time answering, drawing even with a three-run fourth of their own to make it 6-6. Western Oregon got the game-winner in the sixth inning when Whitney Lee singled home Shanley Young.
SSU got two hits and three RBIs from Claire Hiney and a double and triple from Britni Geary. Simone Brandalise was charged with the loss after tossing 6.2 innings and yielding five runs while striking out four.
SSU will play Humboldt State and Western Oregon tomorrow in Arcata.
