ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Seawolf softball team won their opener on Friday at the 2007 Mizzuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock. SSU defeated Central Washington 5-3 to improve to 16-23 on the year.
Central Washington opened up the scoring with a run in the first, but SSU struck for three in the third. After a walk to Britni Geary, Claire Hiney followed with an RBI double. Alex Winters then hit an RBI single and she advanced to third on a two-base error. She would later score on Ashley Eisemann's two-out infield single.
The Wildcats scored another in the third, but SSU put the game away with two in the fifth, the last coming on Ashley Eisemann's third home run of the season.
Simone Brandalise got the win for the Seawolves as she allowed three runs in seven innings.
SSU playes Western Washington later on Friday.
