Seawolves Split Day One at Slug Fest

Christina Maher had a couple of goals for SSU on Saturday
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Samantha Burchard's three goals led the way for the Sonoma State women's water polo team in an 8-6 win over No. 3 Occidental at Slug Fest Saturday afternoon. Sonoma State finsihed the Day 1-1.

Samantha Burchard scored three goals on only three attempts to pace the offense. Christina Maher followed with a pair of goals. Roxanna McEwen, Jessica Scott and Samantha Mullins each scored one goal.

Sonoma State (8-7 overall, 2-5 WWPA) jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first period and never looked back, keeping a two goal margin between itself and the Tigers the rest of the game en route to an 8-6 win.

The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in the Collegiate III poll, fell to 4-2 on the year after posting an 0-2 record for the day. Sonoma State is back in action tomorrow at the Slug Fest when they take on Whittier at 9:40 am then WWPA foe Colorado State at 4:00 pm.
