Seawolves Hammer Toros in Series Opener, 16-5

Tyler Wightman went 3-for-6 with a grand slam and a double.
CARSON, Calif. - The Sonoma State baseball team belted three home runs and 15 hits in a lopsided 16-5 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday afternoon in the CCAA weekend series opener.

The Seawolves (13-4 overall, 8-1 CCAA) entered the third inning down 2-1. However, the Torros' lead would not last long as Sonoma State blew the game open with 11 runs on eight hits. Tyler Wightman delivered the knockout blow in his second at bat of the inning as he hit a grad slam over the center field wall.

Sonoma State would add three more in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Leo Avila.

The Seawolves had six players with multiple hits, led by Wightman who was 3-for-6 with five RBIs, a double and the fourth inning grand slam.

Chase McGuire hit his team-high sixth home run and Ian Bridges also homered.

Brian Oland improved his record to 4-0 on the season as he went 6.2 innings and allowed five runs on six hits. Gary Scott threw 2.1 innings of relief and allowed only one hit.

The same two teams meet tomorrow at 11:00 am for a CCAA doubleheader in Carson, Calif.
