LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Samantha Mullins netted five goals to lead the Sonoma State women's water polo team past Chapman, 12-5, in the opener of the Loyola Marymount Invitational Friday morning.
Mullins again tied the school record for goals in a game. She scored five goals earlier this season against Cal Lutheran on Feb. 24 and Jessica Scott netted five goals one week ago against Cal State East Bay.
Sonoma State trailed 2-1 after the first period but rallied to take a 5-4 lead at the break. After the break, Sonoma State ran away with the game, posting three goals in the third period while holding the Panthers to none. Sonoma State outscored Chapman 4-1 in the fourth period for the 12-5 win.
Sonoma State (16-14 overall, 7-8 WWPA) got goals from Samantha Burchard, Roxanna McEwen, Laurel Stricklin, Jessica Scott, Lauran Zambruski, Tasha Thiele and Courtney Rider to add with Mullins's four.
Sonoma State is back in action this afternoon when they play host, No. 11, Loyola Marymount at 1:00 pm.
