Seawolves Stay Alive With 10-3 Win Over UCSD

Bryan Oland went nine innings to beat UC San Diego on Friday afternoon
LOS ANGELES, Calif-  Facing elimination, Sonoma State got a complete game from Bryan Oland to beat UC San Diego 10-3 at the NCAA West Regional Tournament in Los Angeles.  The Seawolves pick up their 50th win of the season, tying the school record for victories in a season.  UC San Diego sees their season end at 37-25.

The Seawolves (50-11) will play again at 3:00 pm on Saturday against one of three opponents.  If Cal State L.A. beats Nebraska-Kearney this afternoon, the Seawolves play the Golden Eagles.  If CSULA loses, Sonoma State plays the loser of tonight's Mesa State-Chico State game.

UC San Diego jumped out for two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Chris Franco.  The Seawolves countered with three in the third, two of which came on a double by Chase McGuire.  The Seawolves picked up another trio one inning later when David Adler knocked in a pair on a triple and Brandon Zenimura delivered a sacrifice fly.

Sonoma State broke things open in the eighth inning Tyrese McDaniel hits  bases loaded double.  That hit made it 10-3 and gave Bryan Oland more than enough breathing room.

Oland recorded his second complete game of the year with a six-strikeout performance.  With his fourth strikeout he reached the 100-strikeout mark for the season, extending his school record in the category.  The junior from Santa Ana improves to 11-1 on the season.

David Adler finished the game 3-for-6 with three legs of a cycle (single, double, triple).  Tyler Wightman, Chase McGuire, and Leo Avila each had two hits.  McGuire and Avila each had two doubles as the Seawolves seven two-baggers on the day.
