Lysander, Goelz Pick Up More Honors

Brent Lysander was named Regional Pitcher of the Year....again
ELLENSBURG, Wash-  The second of three All-West Region teams came out on Thursday afternoon and for Sonoma State, it contained many of the usual suspects.  Sophomore Brent Lysander and head coach John Goelz garnered top honors as pitcher of the year and coach of the year respectively in the 2007 National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) balloting.  Bryan Oland, Paige Dumont, and B.J. Collom were also named to the First Team.

Lysander earned his second regional pitcher of the year honor this week.  The San Diego native is 10-1 with a 1.39 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched.  Earlier this month, Lysander was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Year.

John Goelz has enjoyed perhaps his finest season in his 22 years as head coach.  This season, Goelz earned his 700th career win and his Seawolves have tied a school record with 50 wins (through Thursday).  To top it all off, SSU is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time in the 38-year history of the Sonoma State program.

Joining Lysander on the NCBWA All-West Region First Team were pitchers Bryan Oland and Paige Dumont, along with outfielder B.J. Collom.  All four were also Daktronics All-West Region picks as announced earlier this week.

The Seawolves continue their run at the NCAA West Regionals on Friday at 3:00 pm.
