LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sonoma State's postseason run was cut short this afternoon when the No. 1 seed in the West Region and ninth ranked team nationally, UC San Diego, swept SSU out of the tournament 5-0.
The Tritons (16-6) set the tone early by taking all three doubles matches from the Seawolves (7-10) to jump to a 3-0 lead. UCSD then took two quick matches at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to end the match. Zel Sperry and Connor Olson each led at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively before the match was stopped.
The doulbes team of Olson and
Brandon Buskirk finished with a record of 15-5, good for the second-most wins in a season by an SSU doubles team and rank sixth in career doubles wins.
Andy Muesse fnished the season with six wins at the No. 1 position, good for sixth in a season and tied for fourth in his career. For his career, Muesse has 45 total wins, also good for seventh all-time.
