Volleyball Comes Up Short In 2007 Debut

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  After winning the first game, Sonoma State lost three straight to fall to Western Oregon 3-1 in their first match of the season, on Friday at the Seawolf Spike.  The Seawolves took game one 30-25 before being shut down the rest of the way, 30-21, 30-23, 30-23.

The loss snaps a string of three straight years that the Seawolves have opened the season with a win.

Kaylee Aizenstadt had a solid game for SSU, with 12 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.  Freshman Marianne Fox, in her collegiate debut, was the only other Seawolf in double figures, finishing the game with ten kills.  Lindsay Brown had 35 assists and Taylor Manton recorded 28 digs in her return to the libero position.

Kayla Mainer knocked down a game-high 15 kills and Stephanie Beeler turned in a .421 attack percentage for Western Oregon.  The Wolves also got 37 assists from Amy Herron and 29 digs from Claire Carpenter.

The Seawolves continue play tonight at 7:00 pm against Notre Dame de Namur.  Western Oregon faces Chico State at 4:30 pm.
