SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- Sonoma State got two goals from
Nathan Medina and another from
Andrew Bailey to stay perfect in CCAA play with a 3-2 win over San Francisco State on Friday afternoon in San Francisco. The victory lifts the Seawolves to 5-2-1, 4-0-0 CCAA. The Gators fall to 5-4-0, 2-3-0 CCAA.
The Seawolves have won five of their last six games and are 18-2-1 in their last 21 conference games dating back to 2005.
Nathan Medina continued his strong play against SF State. He has scored the game-winning goal in the last three Seawolf wins over the Gators and has four scores in his career against SFSU.
Despite controlling play early, it would be San Francisco State finding the net first. In the 15th minute, Shawn Granger scored off an assist by Wes Whitt to make it 1-0 Gators.
In the 30th minute, the Seawolves found the equalizer when
Nathan Medina hammered one home off an assist by
Eric Lafon. The score would remain 1-1 for the rest of the first half.
Sonoma State took a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the 65th minute when Medina scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick.
Just over five minutes later, Bailey scored on another Lafon assist to make it 3-1. It was an insurance goal that the Seawolves would end up needing as SF State's Dylan Glass scored with under four minutes remaining to make it 3-2.
The Seawolves out shot the Gators 23-6 for the game. Medina took eight of those shots.
With his second half goal,
Andrew Bailey moves into a tie with Jeremy Sweet for third place on the all-time SSU goal scoring list with 33. He has seven goals this season.
The Seawolves will take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday in Seaside.
