Volleyball Falls To Humboldt State In Five Games

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State served match point in game four and had a lead in game five, but came up on the losing side of a 3-2 decision to Humboldt State in CCAA volleyball action on Friday night at Seawolf Gym.  The Lumberjacks took the match by scores of 17-30, 30-25, 25-30, 32-30, 15-10 to improve to 6-7, 2-3 CCAA.  The Seawolves drop to 5-9, 1-4 CCAA with the loss.

The Seawolves came out strong, cruising 30-17 game one win.  After the teams split consecutive 30-25 games, the Seawolves had the 'Jacks on the ropes in game four.  The Seawolves had the serve leading 29-28, but they couldn't put the game away.  HSU battled back to take the game, 32-30.

In game five, the teams went back and forth early before the 'Jacks took advantage of five Seawolf hitting errors to pull away, 15-10.

Marianne Fox led the Seawolves with 20 kills.  Lindsay Brown supplied 53 assists and Taylor Manton had 40 digs in the match.  The Seawolves hit .124 in the match and came up with seven blocks.

The Lumberjacks got a balanced attack with four players with double digit kills, led by Lynsey Adams' 17.  Liz Shannon had 53 assists and Kelly Catherina matched Manton with 40 digs of her own.  The 'Jacks hit .123 for the match and posted 12 blocks.

The Seawolves will try to right the ship next weekend on the road at Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
