POMONA, Calif-
Mark Wiedeman and
Brandon Dela Cruz scored to lead the 21st-ranked Sonoma State men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday evening in Pomona. The Seawolves remain perfect in CCAA play as they run their record to 7-2-1, 6-0-0 CCAA. The Broncos fall to 3-5-1, 3-3-0 CCAA.
It marks the second straight year that the Seawolves have opened the CCAA season with at least six straight wins. SSU started the '06 CCAA season with an 8-0-0 record.
The Seawolves are now 20-2-1 over the past 23 CCAA contests, a span dating back to 2005.
Wiedeman gave the Seawolves the lead right before the half on an unassisted goal at the 43:08 mark. Dela Cruz made it 2-0 in the 67th minute when he scored off of a scramble in front of the net.
Mike Travis was credited with an assist on the play.
Cal Poly Pomona's Kevin Jin scored to cut the lead in half at the 76:34 mark. The Broncos actually out shot the Seawolves 11-10 in the game, but
Brook Johnson recorded six saves to earn his seventh win of the season.
The Seawolves will face Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.
