SAN BERNARDINO, Calif- Sonoma State missed out on a couple of key opportunities on Sunday, resulting in a 2-1 double overtime loss to Cal State San Bernardino. The Seawolves fall to 6-4-1, 2-4-1 CCAA while the Coyotes go to 5-5-2, 2-5-1 CCAA.
The Seawolves had a chance to capture a 1-0 lead in the first half, but a penalty kick by
Brittany Peterson was thwarted by CSUSB goalkeeper Leslie Rhodes. SSU's first goal would have to wait until the 56th minute when Peterson scored off a flick from
Lindsay Catton.
The Coyotes were quick to tie it up, scoring less than a minute late on a header by Bianca Pritchett.
With just under four minutes to go in the first overtime, it looked like the Seawolves might have gotten the game-winner. However, an apparent goal by
Tracy Webster was called off because of offsides.
Instead, it was Katie Liby netting the game-winner for CSUSB in the third minute of the second overtime.
The loss is the first for Sonoma State since September 1st, a span of six games.
