LOS ANGELES, Calif- Freshman
Ali Cheadle scored in the 16th minute to lead Sonoma State to a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Cal State L.A. on Friday night in CCAA women's soccer action in Los Angeles. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Seawolves as they improve to 2-3-0, 1-0-0 CCAA. The Golden Eagles drop to 3-1-0, 0-1-0 CCAA.
Friday's match was somewhat of a reversal of the last three games, in which SSU out shot their opponent, but ended up on the losing end. On Friday, SSU was out shot 13-5 by Cal State L.A., but still came away with three CCAA points.
Cheadle's goal came at the 15:04 mark off a brilliantly placed
Lindsay Catton corner kick.
Courtney Grixti and the SSU defense was solid all night, keeping a high-powered Golden Eagle offense at bay. Grixti finished the night with three saves on her way to her second shutout in five collegiate games.
The Seawolves will continue CCAA play next weekend when they host Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
