Men's Hoops Falls To Monterey Bay For First Time

Steve Cornett led the way with 15 points in Saturday's loss
SEASIDE, Calif-  Cal State Monterey Bay got 24 points from D'Shon Cannon to defeat Sonoma State 91-79 on Friday night in Seaside.  The Seawolves were led by 15 points from junior Steve Cornett as they suffer their first loss to the Otters in nine all-time meetings.  SSU falls to 6-5, 2-3 CCAA while the Otters see their record improve to 2-9, 1-4 CCAA.

The Seawolves dug themselves into a 15-point hole in the first half, entering the break down 40-25.  In the second half, Cannon took over, scoring 19 of his points to help the Otters hang on. 

Kyle Shandera was 6-of-7 from the field for a season-high 14 points for Sonoma State.  Ben Washington had a team-high five rebounds and Andrew Kochevar had three of SSU's seven team assists. 

Kochevar struggled from the field, shooting just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.  He finished with ten points. 

Jose Sanchez had 19 points and Augie Johnston pitched in with 15 for Cal State Monterey Bay.

After a 5-1 start to the season, the Seawolves have lost four of their last five games.  They will try to rebound on Saturday evening at San Francisco State.
