SAN FRANCISCO, Calif-  Sonoma State used a balanced attack to defeat San Francisco State 51-44 in conference action on Saturday evening in San Francisco.  Chelsey Armacost led the Seawolves with 16 points as they improve to 11-2, 5-1 CCAA.  The Gators fall to 5-8, 2-4 CCAA.

With Chico State's 70-59 win over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, the Seawolves pull into a first place tie with the Wildcats and Coyotes at 5-1.

All five of Sonoma State's starters had at least seven rebounds and three of them scored at least a dozen points.  Danae Wellander turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

San Francisco State led the game at 13-11 with 11:43 to go.  They would not score another point in the half as Sonoma State reeled off 13 consecutive points to take a 24-13 lead into the locker room.

SSU's defense, the top-ranked unit in the conference, yielded a few more points in the second half, but it wasn't enough for the Gators to get back into the game.  SSU is giving up just over 50 points per game this season.  Saturday's 44 point performance by SF State was the fourth sub-50 point total by an SSU opponent this season.  It is also the third such mark in the last four games for the Sonoma defense.

Armacost got nine of her 16 points from the free throw line.  She also had seven rebounds.  Heidi Mertle had eight rebounds and Genny Anderson posted 12 points.

Jessica Hout-Freeman led all scorers with 22 for the Gators.  The Gators shot just 25% (16-for-64) from the field and just 12% (3-for-25) from three-point territory.
