ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State got 14 points from a trio of starters to snap a three-game losing skid by beating Cal State Stanislaus 69-56 in CCAA action on Friday night in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves improve to 7-4, 3-4 CCAA while the Warriors drop to 3-11, 2-5 CCAA.
The Warriors came in to the game boasting the conference's most potent offense at 77.7 points per game. They started quickly, taking a 17-8 lead over the Seawolves in the first five minutes of the game. The Seawolves, however, quickly rebounded and proceeded to outscore the Warriors 37-18 for the remainder of the half to lead at the break by ten, 45-35.
SSU's defense came up big in the second half as they held the Warriors to just 21 points on 8-of-27 shooting. It marked the first time this season that Stanislaus has been held under 60 points.
Sonoma State got 14 points from
Andrew Kochevar,
Steve Cornett, and
Ben Washington. Cornett rounded out his night with nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Jay Flores came off the bench to post seven points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Duane Jones led Cal State Stanislaus with 15 points. Three others (Rick Cardoso, Heath Colvin, and J.R. Cassita) finished with nine.
The Seawolves will host rival Chico State tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.
