Seawolves Top Wildcats In CCAA Showdown, 47-46

Genny Anderson had a huge night on Saturday to knock off Chico
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State topped No. 16 Chico State 47-46 on Saturday night in a highly anticipated CCAA women's basketball showdown that lived up to the billing.  The win lifts the Seawolves to 13-2, 7-1 CCAA.  The Wildcats drop to 13-4, 6-2 CCAA.

Down by three, Chico State's Audriana Spencer got off a shot at the buzzer that found the bottom of the net.  Unfortunately, her foot was just over the three-point arc, bringing the Wildcats to within one, but handing the Seawolves a huge win.

After a back and forth first ten minutes, Chico State used a 7-0 run midway through to take a 17-11 lead.  SSU would slice in to the lead some, but still trailed at the break, 24-21.

Chico held on to their lead for the first eleven and a half minutes of the second half before SSU got the lead back on a Genny Anderson layup at 8:26.

The score would volley back and forth before SSU captured the lead for good when Anderson capped a 5-0 run with a jumper at the 2:08 mark.

Up 45-44, Chelsey Armacost hit a pair of clutch free throws with 23 seconds left that ended up being the difference in the game.

Genny Anderson had a brilliant game, finishing with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and a game-high nine rebounds.  Danae Wellander had seven points, six rebounds, and six assists, and Michelle Gardner posted seven rebounds.

Audriana Spencer led the Wildcats with 16 points.

The Seawolves are now alone in first place in the CCAA at 7-1 thanks to Cal State San Bernardino's loss to UC San Diego on Saturday night.

The Seawolves hit the road next weekend.
