ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State men continued their dominance over Chico State on Saturday night with a 66-51 win at Seawolf Gym. The Seawolves got 18 points from
Ben Washington as they complete a weekend sweep and improve to 8-6, 4-4 CCAA. The Wildcats fall to 5-10, 1-7 CCAA.
The Seawolves have now won eight in a row against their rivals and 11 in a row at Seawolf Gym. The Seawolves are also 13-1 against the Wildcats since February of 2001.
Neither team was able to take control in a first half that saw the Wildcats go into the break with a one point lead at 30-29. Mike Martin came up big for Chico, scoring 11 of his team-high 17 points in the first half.
The Seawolves went into high gear in the second half as they pushed the lead from three points to ten points with a 9-2 run that ate up nearly four and a half minutes. Chico was able to cut the lead down to five, but another run, this one a 6-0 spurt, put the Seawolves comfortably ahead.
The Seawolves got a bevy of solid performances, including Washington's 18-point, six-rebound night.
Jay Flores had his second straight solid outing, finishing with 12 points and
Keith Garner was solid on both ends of the floor, posting 12 points and eight rebounds.
For Chico, Mike Martin led the way with 17 points and six rebounds. Darroll Phillips was the only other Wildcat in double digits with 10.
The Seawolves hit the road next weekend to face Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
