SAN BERNARDINO, Calif- The 25th-ranked Sonoma State women's basketball team saw their five-game winning streak snapped on Friday night with a 70-57 loss to Cal State San Bernardino at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino. The loss drops the Seawolves to 13-3, 7-2 CCAA. The Coyotes are also 13-3, 7-2 CCAA.
The Seawolves and Coyotes are now tied with Chico State for first place in the CCAA at 7-2. The Wildcats defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night.
Sonoma State had a 10-point lead in the first half before the Coyotes closed the half on an 8-0 run to trail by just one at the break, 30-29.
The game would stay within one or two possessions for the first 15 minutes of the second half before San Bernardino went on a 7-0 run to turn a 54-53 lead into a 61-53 edge. SSU chipped away, getting the score to 61-56, but a 9-1 run to end the game gave the Coyotes a 13-point win.
Genny Anderson had 13 points to lead Sonoma State while
Jennifer Russo poured in a career-high 12 off the bench.
Danae Wellander, SSU's leading scorer, was limited to just four points though she did set a career-high with nine assists.
SSU held the conference's leading scorer, Vanessa Wilt, to just four points in the first half, but she turned in on in the second half to finish with a game-high 22. Shanae Blake assisted Wilt with 15 points.
The Seawolves will look to keep pace with CSUSB and Chico tomorrow night when they take on the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos.
