Andrew Kochevar busted out of his offensive slump with 22 points, but it would not be enough as Sonoma State fell to Cal Poly Pomona, 66-59 on Saturday night at Kellogg Gym in Pomona. The Seawolves fall to 8-8, 4-6 CCAA on the season. The Broncos see their record upped to 8-7, 7-3 CCAA.
After an
Andrew Kochevar three-point play gave the Seawolves a 12-11 lead midway through the first half, the Broncos unleashed a 20-5 run over the final twelve minutes of the first half. This gave the Broncos a 31-17 halftime lead.
Sonoma State narrowed the lead to eight early in the second half, but another 7-0 run quickly expanded the margin back to 15 at 45-30.
The Seawolves scored eight points in the final 33 seconds to bring the final margin down to seven points.
The Seawolves outscored the Broncos 42-35 in the second half.
Kochevar's 22 points came on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and a 3-of-8 mark from three-point territory. He also led the team with six rebounds.
Keith Garner and
Gerred Link were the next highest scorers for Sonoma State, each finishing with six points.
Angelo Tsagarakis and Larry Gordon each had 16 points to pace the Broncos.
The Seawolves will return home next weekend to host Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A..
