POMONA, Calif- The Sonoma State women's baskeball team lost their second straight game on Friday night, falling to Cal Poly Pomona 64-57. The loss is the second of the weekend for the 25th-ranked Seawolves as they fall to 13-4, 7-3 CCAA. The Broncos improve to 8-8, 5-5 CCAA.
The loss drops the Seawolves one game back in the CCAA race as both Chico State (8-2) and Cal State San Bernardino (8-2) were victorious on Saturday.
The Seawolves finished the first half on a 4-0 run to lead 32-29 at the break. However, the game was quick to shift as the Broncos outscored the Seawolves 19-6 over the first ten minutes of the second half. That pushed their lead to ten points, where it would stay for much of the remainder of the half.
SSU was able to chip away in the final moments, getting the deficit down to four with 42 seconds remaining. The Broncos, however, made all six of their free throw attempts down the stretch to put the game away.
Danae Wellander led the Seawolves with 19 points. She also had a team-high four assists before fouling out in the second half.
Lauren Redfield was also in double digits with ten points.
Vanessa Rodriguez led three Broncos in double digits with 15 points.
The Broncos are coached by Scott Davis, who assisted
Mark Rigby on last year's Sonoma State team.
Sonoma State will host Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. next weekend.
