ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Seawolves improved to 13-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play with a 7-0 blanking of visiting Cal Poly Pomona on a wet, cold Saturday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The defending CCAA champion Seawolves are off to the best start in the program's history. Cal Poly Pomona falls to 3-8, 0-2 CCAA with the loss.
The game was called due to rain after seven innings.
Gary Moran got the start for Sonoma State and was simply unhittable, that is, until a line drive struck him in the knee and knocked him out of the game. His final line showed three no-hit innings, one walk, and three strikeouts. Moran gave way to
Kevin Asselin who allowed just five hits and one walk over the final four innings to get the win.
SSU exploded for six runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach. Highlights from that inning included a three-run homer by
Trevor Howell followed by a solo shot from
Mark Pestorich.
Nick Nosti, Pestorich,
Ian Bridges, and
Konrad Thieme all had two hits as SSU out hit the Broncos 10-5.
Due to an impending storm in the North Bay, the remainder of the series between the Broncos and Seawolves will not be played.
