Seawolves Come Up Just Short Against Coyotes

Danae Wellander had 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on Friday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Danae Wellander's potential game-tying three-pointer was blocked by Vanessa Wilt as Cal State San Bernardino hung on for a 52-49 win over Sonoma State at Seawolf Gym on Friday night.  The Seawolves close the regular season at 19-8, 13-7 CCAA and will enter the CCAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed.  They will host Humboldt State on Tuesday, March 4th at 7:00 pm.

Cal State San Bernardino got out to a ten-point lead in the first nine minutes before the SSU offense woke up.  SSU went on a 10-2 run over the next seven minutes to make it a two-point game.

The Coyotes led for the first 13 minutes of the second half until a Chelsey Armacost three gave SSU their first lead at the 7:00 mark.  CSUSB would quickly tie it up, then go ahead on a Vanessa Wilt jumper with 3:41 left.

With 36 seconds left and SSU down two, Danae Wellander was fouled and sent to the line.  She made one of her two attempts, pulling to within one.  Seven seconds later, Shanae Blake went to the stripe for CSUSB and she made both of her shots.  Trailing by three with a chance to tie, Lauren Redfield missed a three with six seconds left, but Jen Russo picked up the rebound.  A pass was kicked out to Wellander who's shot was swatted by Wilt.

Wilt finished the night with 18 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.  Rachel Johnson was CSUSB's leading scorer with 13 points.

Genny Anderson had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Seawolves.  Teammate Danae Wellander pitched in with 16 points, nine rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

Game Notes:  Prior to the game, SSU's three seniors (Genny Anderson, Chelsey Armacost, and Danae Wellander) were honored...the win completes a season sweep for CSUSB over SSU...the Coyotes will enter the CCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed...Chico State clinched the CCAA regular season title last night.
