BERKELEY, Calif- The fifth-ranked California Golden Bears had little trouble with Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Seawolves 21-4 at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley. The Golden Bears go to 4-0 on the season while the Seawolves fall to 1-2.
Sonoma State's two losses have been to teams ranked in the top eight in the nation. They opened the season with a loss to No. 8 UC Davis.
Cal wasted little time on Sunday, rolling to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. They expanded the lead to 14-1 before the Seawolves finally found some offense in the second half. SSU got goals from
Samantha Burchard and
Jessica Scott to pull within 11, but that's as close as it would get.
Burchard finished with two goals while Scott and
Jenna Bole had one goal apiece.
The Seawolves return to action next Saturday when they head to Stockton to play the University of the Pacific.
