Tritons Pull Away From Seawolves In Second Half

Steve Cornett recorded a double-double in Saturday's loss to UCSD
LA JOLLA, Calif-  Big nights from Steve Cornett and Keith Garner were not enough to carry Sonoma State to victory as the Seawolves fell to UC San Diego 82-61 on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  The loss drops the Seawolves to 9-11, 5-9 CCAA.  The Tritons go to 14-6, 10-4 CCAA.

The Tritons shot at a blistering 63.3% for the game, connecting on 31 of their 49 field goal attempts.

The Seawolves hung tough early, tying the game at 18 with 6:50 left in the first half.  The Tritons would go on to out score SSU 19-10 for the remainder of the half to enter the intermission up nine, 37-28.

Early in the second half, the Tritons used a 16-0 run to quickly turn a 41-33 lead into a 57-33 advantage.  Nineteen points was as close as Sonoma State would get the rest of the way.

Steve Cornett had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.  Keith Garner nearly matched the feat with 19 points and nine rebounds of his own.

Andrew Kochevar finished with 10 points to give him 997 for his career.  He should become Sonoma State's eighth 1,000-point scorer next Friday when the Seawolves host San Francisco State.

Alan Husted led the Tritons with 17 points.  He hit five three-pointers...five more than the Seawolves would make as a team (0-for-8).

SSU hosts San Francisco State on Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
