Women's Basketball Falls To UC San Diego, 72-59

Lauren Redfield had 20 points in Saturday's loss to the Tritons
LA JOLLA, Calif-  Michelle Osier turned in 17 points and 15 rebounds as UC San Diego defeated Sonoma State 72-59 in CCAA play on Saturday evening at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  The Seawolves got 20 points from Lauren Redfield, but it wasn't enough to keep them from falling to 15-6, 9-5 CCAA.  The Tritons pull into a third-place tie with SSU at 17-7, 9-5 CCAA.

The Seawolves led by as many as six on several occasions early in the first half, the latest at 20-14 with 12:05 left.  From there, the Tritons went on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 22-20.  The Tritons hung to a 28-27 lead at the break.

SSU recaptured the lead shortly in to the second half, but UCSD threw in a 12-4 surge to give them a lead they would not relinquish.  UCSD's 13-point lead at the end of the game was the largest either team would enjoy.

Redfield's 20 points came from 7-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers.  Chelsey Armacost had 17 points and Heidi Mertle grabbed ten rebounds for SSU.

Osier got nine of her 17 points from the free throw line and seven of her 15 rebounds on the offensive side.  Alexis Mezzetta and Alexis Gaskin were also in double digits for the Tritons with 17 and 15 points respectively.

The Seawolves will host San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay next weekend.
