ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Seawolves had trouble reaching home plate on Saturday as they dropped a doubleheader to Cal State Monterey Bay by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 at Seawolf Field. This came on the heels of a 6-5 loss in the continuation of Friday's nightcap. The losses drop the Seawolves to 3-3, 1-3 CCAA. The Otters improve to 6-2, 3-1 CCAA.
After taking a 5-3 lead late on Friday evening, the Seawolves needed to record just three outs to get the win on Saturday morning (the game was halted due to darkness). Those three outs would not come quick enough, however, as CSUMB rallied for two runs in the seventh. In the eighth inning, SSU went quietly in the top half of the inning before CSUMB scored the game-winner.
The first game of Saturday's scheduled doubleheader was one of frustration for the Seawolves. SSU out hit the Otters 6-2 in the game, but they couldn't get a run home, leaving 11 runners on base.
Simone Brandalise and
Brittany Williams combined on a solid outing, but an RBI single by CSUMB's Megan Luna in the third inning was the difference.
Shyrle Hawes and
Ashley Eisemann each had two hits for SSU in the loss.
The SSU offense encountered more trouble in the nightcap, thanks to some solid pitching by CSUMB's Jessica Boyle. The Seawolves managed just two hits and two walks. The Otters scored a run in the first inning and another in the sixth to seal the win.
The Seawolves will try to bounce back when they play at Dominican on Tuesday.
