POMONA, Calif- The Sonoma State men's tennis team overcame a shaky start to defeat Cal Poly Pomona 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Pomona. The 34th-ranked Seawolves improve to 7-5 overall and they stay perfect against NCAA Division II opponents at 6-0.
Cal Poly Pomona edged SSU in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-6 and 9-7 respectively to enter singles play up 2-1.
In a hole, the Seawolves stepped up to the challenge, winning five of the six singles matches to surge past the Broncos.
Andy Muesse was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 and
Jeff Stollberg won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1.
Quan Vu's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles clinched the Sonoma State victory.
SSU will take on Concordia University of California on Sunday, the 17th-ranked NAIA squad in the nation.
