SAN BERNARDINO, Calif- The Sonoma State baseball team extended their winning streak to 14 in a row with a doubleheader sweep of Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday afternoon at Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino. The tenth-ranked Seawolves improve to 20-1, 9-0 CCAA.
The 14-game winning streak is the second-longest in school history. The Seawolves won 22 games in a row last year on their way to a 50-12 overall record. SSU's 20-1 start to the season is by far the best in school history.
The Coyotes scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead in game one before the Seawolves came back to tie the score in the sixth inning on an RBI single by
Tyrese McDaniel. CSUSB went up again in the seventh only to again be tied by the Seawolves on a
Kris Haycock RBI single. The score remained 2-2 until the top of the 11th when
Mark Pestorich was able to score on a single by
Nick Nosti.
Nick O'Brien picked up the win in relief of
Gary Moran, who scattered six hits over seven innings.
The Seawolves never trailed in game two, jumping out to a 7-0 lead with a seven-run second inning. Kri Haycock and
Ian Bridges had RBI singles,
Tyrese McDaniel had an RBI double, and
Kyle Jones delivered a two-run triple.
Matt Garnett earned the win in relief for the Seawolves as he pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
The Seawolves will go for the sweep on Sunday in San Bernardino.
