Women's Tennis Dealt A Tough Loss To Broncos

Stephanie Luk won twice for the Seawolves on Friday afternoon
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Despite several outstanding efforts, the Sonoma State women's tennis team fell to Cal Poly Pomona, 5-4 on Friday afternoon in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves, fall to 4-10, 1-6 in CCAA play.  The Broncos, ranked fifth in the region and 32nd in the country, go to 7-8, 5-2 CCAA.

Friday's loss was especially tough for SSU as they led at several points in the match.  SSU was up 2-1 after doubles.  Leading 3-2 with four matches to go, the Seawolves needed to win two of the final four matches.  However, Pomona got several solid efforts to earn the victory.  SSU was also able to overcome a wrist injury to Mary Bulich, which forced her to forfeit her match.

The Seawolves got wins in doubles from the teams of Stephanie Luk/Casey O'Connor (No. 1) and Mary Bulich/Haley Hickcock (No. 3).  Luk and Dana Carollo were SSU's victorious singles participants.  For Luk, it was her first defeat of Jenny Tsai, the region's 14th-ranked player, in four encounters.

The duo of Luk and O'Connor came up with a superb come-from-behind effort to beat the tenth-ranked doubles team in the region.  It was the second time this season that Luk and O'Connor have defeated Jenny Tsai and Jennifer Chow.

The Seawolves will host Cal State San Bernardino tomorrow.
