Seawolves Roll Over Banana Slugs Wednesday, 8-1

Stephanie Hoffmire improved to 9-3 in singles play this season.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- After taking two of three matches in doubles play, the Sonoma State women's tennis team won all six singles matches to defeat visiting UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday in Rohnert Park. With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 11-6 this season and the Banana Slugs, a NCAA Division III member, fall to 6-9.

The duos of Dana Carollo/Haley Hickock and Stephanie Hoffmire/Brooke McBride rolled over their opponents in the doubles competition, dispatching the Slugs 8-4 and 8-2, respectively. Megan White and Anastasia Eliseeva stuggled with Ariana Mokhtari and Taylor Mannix at the No. 1 position, but fell 9-8 (7-3) after a tiebreaking set.

Two of the singles matches were forced into a tiebreaker, but White (6-2, 7-6, 7-5) and Hickock (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) emerged as winners at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. McBride (6-2, 6-0) and Hoffmire (6-0, 6-3) took care of their opponents in straight sets, as did Carollo (7-5, 6-0) and Eliseeva (6-2, 7-5).

Sonoma State will host Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday in Rohnert Park. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the SSU Tennis Courts.
