CCAA-Leading Seawolves Roll To Seventh Straight Victory

ROHNERT PARK -- Kelsey Hull went for 17 kills, a .455 hitting percentage and led all players with 21 digs and four service aces as the Sonoma State volleyball team continued its hot streak with a 3-1 victory (25-10, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21) over visiting Chico State in front of a raucous crowd on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den. 

The Seawolves, who now hold a one-game lead in the CCAA standings with a 9-2 record (11-4 overall) ahead of four teams with 8-3 records (Cal State San Bernardino, Humboldt State, Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego), have won seven straight matches and nine of their last 10.  The Wildcats fell below .500 at 7-8 and 5-6 in conference play.

Complementing Hull's performance on Saturday was Madelyn Densberger, who led all hitters with 19 kills and hit .415 for the match.  Caylie Seitz added 16 kills, but was held to just .297.  As a team, the Seawolves hit .355 with 62 kills and just 12 errors in 141 attacks.  Ashley Robinson also had a solid night, smashing five kills in eight swings with no errors and 2.5 total blocks (one solo) on defense.

In the first set, Sonoma State blew Chico State out of the water, cruising to an easy 25-10 win to open the match.  However, the Wildcats would rally in the second, jumping out to leads of 7-3 and 15-10 before the Seawolves scored six unanswered points to take the 16-15 lead.  The teams would go back and forth, but the home team held strong to take a 25-22 win and the 2-0 match lead.

Chico State rebounded to lead for much of the third set and eventually won 27-25 to cut its deficit in half, but Sonoma State recaptured the momentum in the fourth set to grab a narrow 25-21 win to clinch the 3-1 match victory.

Ellie Larronde led the WIldcats with 17 kills, but hit just .161.  Lindsay Quigley added 12 kills, but the WIidcats were held to .184 on offense with 50 kills on the night.

Sonoma State will host two home games next Friday (Cal State Dominguez Hills) and Saturday (Cal State L.A.) -- both at 7:00 pm -- before heading out on the road for seven of its last nine regular season contests.
