(Story by Craig Lifto, SSU Sports Information)ROHNERT PARK -- Overtime wasn't enough time to declare a winner in a 1-1 tie between the Sonoma State Seawolves and UC San Diego Tritons. The tie puts the Seawolves' CCAA record at 2-5-2 and 7-7-2 overall. The Tritons conference record stands at 4-2-3 and 9-4-3 overall. SSU entered the match in ninth place in the CCAA conference needing as many victories as possible in their final three matches to put them in the best position to earn a berth in the six-team conference playoffs.
"We worked hard and had chances, but couldn't get the game winner," said SSU head coach
Marcus Ziemer.
The Tritons opened the scoring when Sean Pleskow scored his third goal of the season past SSU's goalkeeper,
Sean Taufer, in the 27th minute. The Seawolves were able to get even in the 38th minute when Cedric Dinane put a penalty kick past UCSD's Cameron McElfresh.
"I thought our response was great after they scored," Ziemer said. "
Michel Arroyo came in and made a difference in the game.
Ziemer thought the Tritons took a defensive approach to the match.
"They sat back and were content to let us have the ball and try to counter when they won it."
The Seawolves will host Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm on Senior Day and their final home match of the season.
"We are still alive for the CCAA playoffs, but we need to win on Sunday against first place and undefeated Cal Poly Pomona to have any chance," said Ziemer.
