Seawolves Hit Century Mark In Victory Over Pacific Union

(Written by Craig Lifto, SSU Sports Information)

ROHNERT PARK -- Five Sonoma State women's basketball players scored in double figures and all 13 in uniform saw at least eight minutes of action as the Seawolves eclipsed the century mark for the first time since the 1994-95 season with a convincing 100-55 victory over visiting Pacific Union on Wednesday night at The Wolves' Den.

Hannah Sourek scored a team-high 14 points with five rebounds while Tanner Adams dropped in 13 points and dished out a career-high eight assists as SSU improved to 3-4 on the year.  The Pioneers, who had just six active players in uniform for Wednesday's contest, dropped to 1-10.

After two ties and six lead changes through the first eight minutes of play, Sonoma State kickstared a 9-0 run at 12:01 to increase its lead to 22-13before eventually outscoring the Pioneers 22-8 from there to carry a 44-21 advantage into halftime.  Most of the second half saw the Seawolves slowly build on their big lead and go home with a stress-free victory.

The Seawolves shot 58.2 percent (39-67) from the floor, including 58.8 percent (10-17) from three-point range while holding the Pioneers to 37.5 percent (21-56) overall.  Sonoma won the battle on the boards 43-25 and was able to convert 18 Pioneer turnovers into 29 points.  Led by the aforementioned eight assists by Adams, SSU held a 26-9 margin that category on the night.

Leanna Bade and Molly Kommer each had 12 points, followed by Taylor Acosta with 11. Kelsey Robledo brought down a team-high six rebounds, including five on the offensive glass, while contributing eight points of her own, matching Madison Burroughs' offensive effort of eight tallies.

The leading scorer for Pacific Union was Amber Washington with 14. London Robinson chipped in 13.

It was the most points scored for Sonoma State in a game since the SSU put up 108 points in a 59-point win over Menlo College back on Nov. 22, 1994.

Sonoma State returns to action this Sunday at 12:00 pm against San Francisco State at The Wolves' Den.  It will be the second meeting in nine days for the Seawolves and Gators -- SSU defeated SF State, 66-59, down in the city on Dec. 12.
