TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over host Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. The Seawolves, ranked No. 28 in the preseason poll and No. 9 in the latest West Region poll released this week, won their third straight match against the Warriors, improving to 4-2 this season.
All eight wins by Sonoma State were clinched in straight sets. The only loss for the Seawolves came at No. 3 singles where the Warriors' Jessica Laurie rallied to defeat
Kaitlyn Haithcock in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 10-7). Laurie came back in the second to pull out a 6-4 win and outlasted Haithcock 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker with a forehand winner.
At the top spots, No. 10 nationally-ranked
Sara Celma blanked McKenzy Harden (6-0, 6-0) while the top doubles match was won by the No. 21-ranked duo of Celma and Haithcock over J'Ana Diamond and Laurie, 8-3.
Sonoma State returns home on Sunday to face 26th-ranked Academy of Art. First serve is set for 11:00 am.
