(Written by Aryssa Carvalho, SSU Sports Information Intern)CARSON, Calif. -- Madelyn Densberger led all player with 12 kills, tying for a team-high with nine digs as the 22nd-ranked Sonoma State volleyball team earned its first CCAA win of the year, sweeping aside host Cal State Dominguez Hills (25-19, 25-23, 25-16) on Saturday night at the Torodome in Carson, Calif. The Seawolves improve to 3-3 overall (1-1 in conference play) and will make their 2014 home debut on Friday at 7:00 pm against Humboldt State in The Wolves' Den. The Toros stumbled to 1-5 (0-2 CCAA).
The first set started out well with the Seawolves scoring the first four points of the match. The first and last points of the set were scored by kills from
Caylie Seitz, but everything in between was a see-saw battle until Seitz took matters into her own hands and slammed the final three points to the hardwood for the 25-19 Seawolf win.
The Seawolves and Toros were neck and neck for majority of the second set. Densberger was on fire, hitting kill after kill at the Toros. Sonoma, however, almost lost control towards the end of the game when CSU Dominguez Hills rallied for four straight points, bringing the to within one at 22-21, but two kills by
Rachel Andrews and one by Densberger put the set away, 25-23, in favor of SSU.
In the third set, Cal State Dominguez Hills took control early with a 9-7 advantage, but Sonoma State responded with six straight points to take a 13-9 lead, a lead the Seawolves would not relinquish in cruising to the 25-16 win and the 3-0 match victory.
Seitz was held to seven kills on the night, her lowest output of the season, with four errors in 22 attack attempts.
Ashley Robinson also recorded seven kills, but without an error for a .583 hitting percentage.
